Bad Urach 2004
In January 2004, I participated first time at a tournament. There I didn`t
track the battles, but Arnim Lück made a German
Report (pdf-File) on that. Since my second battle there was
against Arnim`s Ch`in Chinese, you can read about it in his report.
Not with pride, since this battle has been by far my worst on the
tournament. Note that on the eve before the tournament I finally
managed to defeat Marios Graeco-Bactrians...!!! The tournament itself
was:
 | against Marian Romans: The Later
Carthaginians used their light horse superiority to demoralize the
enemy's horses. The Roman C-in-C finally has been forced to commit
to battle. There he died, and with him the hope of his army.
 | against Ch`in Chinese: Read
Arnim`s Report. Complex plan in a very difficult terrain. My PIPs
have been 1-1-2, 1-1-2, 2-2-2, 1-2-3, 1-2-4 and afterwards the
battle has been decided anyway. Lesson: Never meet your enemy when
still marching (that is: Don`t rely on deploying after battle has
began, but face in a way you still can stand even with low PIPs)
|
 | against Arabo-Aramaenians: Against
all those horses, there are two tactics: Either hide your own horses
at once or dare a suicid attack right at the beginning. I chose the
latter and my horses broke quickly. With no chance to win, my
phalanx of spear and warband defended fiercely. A loosing draw to
me.
 | against Graeco-Bactrians, again.
But this time against a different composition and an other player.
Tactics as I did before with a screening Light Horse command in
front of my foot. I won`t do this again. Some occasional successes
and killing of a few enemy knights haven't been sufficient. Under
pressure and with some luck, the commander of my spears have been
killed and they went home without fighting.

Wonderfully, this result has been
sufficient to gain the “Best Beginner Award” - some Early
Imperial Romans. I'm gonna to use them as Campanian Allies in the
future!
